Membership

At Crabtree Church, we see membership as an important expression of discipleship, spiritual commitment, and belonging within the local church.

It is more than simply having your name on a list; it is a meaningful covenant relationship between believers who are committed to worshipping, growing, serving, and walking together in Christ.

Membership helps define the relationship between a Christian and their local church family. It provides clarity regarding who the church leaders are called to shepherd, care for, and give account for before God, while also identifying those who have committed themselves to the life, mission, and ministry of the church. In this sense, membership creates both responsibility and belonging.

This relationship is rooted in the gospel, built upon shared convictions concerning essential biblical truth, and marked by mutual encouragement, accountability, care, and support as we pursue Christ together. The New Testament consistently presents the Christian life as something lived in committed community rather than spiritual isolation.

While the practical structure of membership may vary from church to church, the biblical principles remain consistent. In 1 Peter 5, church leaders are instructed to shepherd “the flock of God among you.” Faithful shepherding requires clarity regarding who belongs to the flock. Likewise, Ephesians 4 teaches that church leaders are called to equip the saints for the work of ministry. Membership helps us identify and support those we are called to equip, encourage, and mobilise for service.

Membership also provides a loving framework for pastoral care, accountability, prayer, and, where necessary, biblical correction and restoration (Matthew 18; 1 Corinthians 5). It enables leaders to faithfully care for those entrusted to them and helps cultivate a healthy, protected, and spiritually flourishing church family.

You don’t need to be “super spiritual” to become a member. We simply ask that you profess genuine faith in Jesus Christ, have been baptised by immersion, and are willing to affirm the church’s Statement of Faith.

In today’s culture, long-term commitment is often difficult. People frequently move between churches or drift away, sometimes creating uncertainty about who is truly connected to the church family. At Crabtree Church, we believe clarity is essential.

By becoming a member, you are expressing your belief that God has planted you here to worship, grow, and serve. You are also affirming your support of the church’s vision, values, doctrine, and leadership, while committing yourself to doing life alongside this church family as together we seek to glorify Christ.

If you sense that God is leading you to make Crabtree Church your spiritual home, we would be honoured to speak with you further about membership and help you take that next step.
